Creating for Kid Readers

by LaraH | Posted in Stories we like

runnybabbit.jpgSome of the most copied books in the gallery are amateur publishing efforts by parents writing a story for their child. Several examples I’ve already seen being copied by others include the stuffed animal as adventurer story (i.e. “ Runny Babbit” by NinjaLlama) and the prophetic profession book (i.e. “ When I Grow Up” by JessiW).

I’ve seen three other recent examples of great stories to customize for your children. The first is “ Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” by JessicaT186 which highlights near and far trips that her son has taken and paraphrases from Dr. Seuss’ book by the same name. “ How I Love This Little Guy” by PetraB4 simply states what brings her joy about her young son. “ Grandpa Children’s Book” by KristinaA67 is guessing game with the answer being Grandpa!

These are all wonderfully creative ways of telling a story your child will love! Do you have a book you’ve created to read to your child? Share it with us in Shutterfly Gallery.

I don’t have a story book in mind yet? But once again, this is a great idea. I am also thinking of not only creating the book for my kids, but letting them create their own. Possibly by using their drawings or photographs that they have taken. It would be a great Summer project that could have long lasting memories as they look back at “thier” in years to come.

There are so many great ideas on this website. It had never occurred to me to make a storybook for my kids until I saw so many wonderful ones posted here. I decided to make a book using my daughters’ Halloween pictures. It was so much fun. I can’t wait to read it to my daughters. Thanks for all the great inspiration!

I am in the process of creating the basic story for a children’s picture book after being inspired by these kinds of books in the Shutterfly Gallery- especially “Runny Babbit”. I think that kids get so much from seeing a story told about one or more of their favourite stuffed toys… they feel as though they are a part of the whole tale. My 3 year old son loves nothing better than being read to, and this is the most inpsired book I have come across- I will definitely run with the creative inspiration and try to produce a personal story of this nature for my boys. I’m sure that a book such as “Runny Babbit” would sell like hotcakes in the shops … I know I’d buy a copy!

I love these childrens books. They are so creative and fun to read, even as an adult. I agree these would sell like hot cakes! I like Amy’s idea of having the child create a book of his or her own. Depending on age, they could incorporate their own journaling, and drawings and photos they’ve taken, like Amy said. I’ll have to bring this idea up with my nephew this summer. He’s 12 and loves to write and draw about dinasours (sp?). I bet he’d think it would be cool to do a book of his own.

So many great ideas, I too, wish i had time to complete all the ones I want to do. I hope this site stays going for years to come.

I wrote a book for my daughter about the adventures of her friend, Piggy while she was away at school for the day, but later, I wanted to introduce a new friend to her. If you have kids or nieces or nephews, you might notice how they become fixated at times on different movies, cartoons, and BOOKS, along with the characters within. I wanted to try and recreate that, so I put together a book about a new stuffed animal we had bought her…before we gave her the acutal animal. The book introduced my daughter to Oso, the bear, and we gave her the book I think a week or so before she got the bear (maybe it was for her birthday). She was pretty excited to meet the character from her book. :)
