Briana, wife and a mother of two from Montana, loves photography both as a career and an artform. Briana is also a member of our Shutterfly Gallery Guru team, dedicated to supporting your photo book and storytelling creativity. You’ve probably seen Briana’s helpful comments throughout the Gallery - maybe even on your own photo book.
In this interview, Briana tells us how children inspire her photography, how she uses her images to tell the story, and also imparts a fantastic piece of photo book advice - organize now to save time later.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
What got you interested in making photo books?
Well I made a paper scrapbook for my son but then when my daughter came along I found I didn’t really have the time, so I made her a photo book from Shutterfly and I love it so much! I also did my photography portfolio which has helped my business to really take off.
What are your favorite images to capture and why?
I love to photograph children, especially when they don’t know your photographing them. They are so pure and inocent.
Who inspires you?
Again, children. Couples also, I love doing engagement and wedding pictures too.
What kind of stories do you like to tell in your photo books?
I like to use photos as sort of a timeline, in the order that they happened.
What advice would you give your fellow photo book storytellers?
Organize your photos in a folder on your computer before you start your book, then after you’ve decided what photo’ you’d like to use in your book upload them to Shutterfly in one album, this made it a lot easier for me.
What’s your next photo book project?
I have a couple, I want to make one for my son, he’s 4. And I’m also going to make one for my friend that just got married as a wedding gift once she gets me the photos, which I’m really excited about.
What are some of your favorite Gallery photo books and why?
I’ve seen so many good ones. I love the wedding albums, and I really like to see the work of other photographers, too.

Briana,
Nice interview! We are famous!!! I really like your idea of organizing the photos first on your computer, then uploading to Shutterfly. I actually do this too and it does make it so much easier especially if your using photos from different dates, you can group them all in one folder. No wonder My Pictures folder is such a mess!
Nice to read about you. Keep up the great work with your books and photos!

I really enjoy how children just go about their business without a care in the world. I love capturing that energy.
