DestaL’s “
Fathers Day 2008” is a beautifully photographed tribute to her husband, the father of her two children.
I find the photos particularly effective because she edits many with sepia tones to simplify the image. She’s also used the Geo Royale Father’s Day photo book style with a palette that includes brown, orange, and yellow to accompany these images. These backgrounds provide a beautiful frame to the sepia-toned photos. I also like on pages 18-21 where she combines some untouched photos with others to draw your eye to investigate the many images on these pages.
The next time I’m making a book, I will try this or editing some images to be black and white (like in GabrieleS1’s “
Our Golf Wedding” book) to add a different flavor to some layouts.

I just checked out this Father’s Day book. I have only been meaning to for a couple of months now. I love her choice of sepia in her pictures, it flowed really well with the book template. The poem she used, she worked in throughout the book. Thats a neat idea as well. I need to edit more in my books.
I think I saw the Golf Wedding book, but I’ll check to make sure.
Thanks for the article and tips.

I just completed my first sepa tone book. I am usually drawn to black and white but this time around the photos in my book did pop like I wanted so I changed them to sepa. It did the trick. The photos were of a 4 month old little girl and the pink and brown background I picked work out so much better with the sepa. Sometime the warmer sepa works with the warmer toned colors, like brown or orange…or if you want a classic vintage feeling.
