I’ve seen many year in review photo books in Gallery, but none with just 10 photos. Mplusmequalsl’s “
2007 Favorites” is a must see for anyone who wants to tackle this effort.
She tells her family’s year in review story in just 10 photos (not counting the collaged cover) and relies heavily on journaling a caption for each photo that explains the memory and significance of the selected pictures. I was so impressed, I MOLT’d her book for my story of a 4th of July weekend camping trip.
I was challenged to really think about the selection of photos from the 280 total I took over the 3 day camping trip. It also made me journal about each picture and why it was important to the story. In the end I had 13 photos that needed to be included in “ A Campout in 13 Photos”. I’m hooked on this type of photo book and will definitely try it again.
One other tip to pass along: I used the kids interview sheet found in our summer Hit the Road microsite to make sure I captured my children’s memories from the trip as well as my own.
Please share your summer travel story to the Shutterfly Gallery.

I also loved this book. The simplicity of it and that you don’t have to use EVERY photo you took. This will be a real challenge for me because after seeing A Campout in 13 Photos, it really makes me want to try really hard to do a similar 4th of July book. I actually took over 200 photos too, trying out my new birthday camera!! I have all the photos uploaded to a book, now lets see if I can pull this off. There are so many i want to include. I really like the full picture on the right side of page, and journaling on left. mplusmequals1 is a great inspiration.
Thanks for sharing these inspiring books.

OK call me crazy but I took over 800 photo’s on the 4th of July. It was mostly taking pictures of the kids jumping in the pool and getting action shots so it would be great to pick out the best 10 and then tell my story. I love the simple use of a full page photo and then journaling. It’s amazing how less is more and what an effect it has on another wonderful creative style. Now it’s time to get to work on less is more!
Thanks for sharing.

Everyone has their own style but somctimes I think it’s good to try something “new and different”. I tell my story with photos…and usually lots of them. I sometimes blame digital cameras for that.
I’m a digi-scrapper and I have to admit that DS it is one of my passions. I love sorting through the photos and selecting those that depict the memories we have shared with our family especially the visits of our grandchildren. Then I start creating the layouts for the event and photos. Actually I love the entire process, BUT I tried something new and different a few weeks ago. I received a Thank You for being a good customer free 8×8 book. Well, I couldn’t let that go by, but I couldn’t put photos into layouts that quick either. So I took 20 of my favorite layouts from the 12×12 100 page books I just finished for the kids, and put together a small book for me. My pages were already at Shutterfly and all I did was pull them from my albums and then designed a new cover and wala it was done. I was thrilled when it was delivered. By doing something “new and different” I’ve added those small books of favorite layouts for me to my list of passions. I also learned that it wasn’t that difficult to select just a few of the many layouts I’ve done and photos I’ve taken to make a book that will be cherished.
Thanks for sharing. Everyone is so inspiring.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a real challenge to try to keep things simple, but it can be done, as attested by this great book. I actually tried it with the last photo book I posted. I spread a few pictures over 2 pages and used fewer photos but repeated the same photo on the page. Okay, so it wasn’t quite 10 photos but I’m trying! My next challenge will be journaling my books. Thanks for the great ideas on ways to continue to improve our projects and explore new ideas.
