Nature Walk

naturewalk2.jpgSince we’re staying local this summer - no 2-week vacations to far away places - our family is rediscovering the beauty of our home town via local nature walks. It’s so easy for me to forget that beautiful things are right around the corner, but taking a couple hours to find those green nooks and crannies completely changes my perspective. I realize that I live in a special place, and feel lucky that I have easy access to nature spots. And the great thing about finding these beautiful local places, is that you can easily invite your family and friends along for the journey.

Local nature walks NATURALLY inspire us to capture these beautiful moments in pictures. Here are a couple of my favorites. All right, so one of them isn’t necessarily your local city park. But boy, is it beautiful!

In ‘ Amber Lillian goes on a Nature Walk‘, Mae_2 takes us on a journey through the local forest with her husband and two grandchildren. What I love about this book is how Mae shows her family engaged in the environment around them. We don’t just see pretty trees and mountains and skies, we see people holding fallen leafs, frogs, bags of collected maple leaves. We see two granddaughters looking out at the lake. These type of ‘people in nature’ shots make me feel like I’m right there, too - holding my own bag of leaves and enjoying the cool breeze off the water.

Another gorgeous nature book is CLM17’s ‘ Autumn‘. It’s not about people, but I still love looking at it, because the scenery is absolutely amazing. I appreciate this book because it focuses on one theme and digs into it. We dive into everything in nature that reminds us of Autumn…from misty forests to bright orange folliage to mossy stone to breathtaking lakes. With every turn of the page I feel myself longing for late October, when the leaves start turning and the air is crisp and fresh.

I really enjoyed these two nature books you spotlighted. I have seen so many throughout Gallery that I just love. I’m so apt to take photos of nieces and nephews that I often times forget of the nature that surrounds me. I’ve been meaning to go to one of the local parks with the kids and take a bunch of photos. Since I don’t really live that close to a park, I’ve been taking photos of clouds. I’ve just been so mesmerized by them. I know it sounds corny, but they really are kind of peaceful fluffs in the sky. I’ve been debating about putting a ‘cloud’ book together. Nature is so beautiful and I’m seeing that more with all these awesome books in the Gallery.
Thanks for another great article. It has inspired me to go outside my ‘normal’ box.

Gorgeous nature books. Funny you should mention the local “nooks and crannies” because I’m looking for a great spot for my babe’s one year photos and have discovered that there are a ton of nature places close by. How did I never notice before now? Great feature article to point out the obvious that we do seem to forget, or don’t notice.

These two books touched me in different ways of course. The walk with grandma was so heartwarming and the Autumn book just had beautiful stunning photos. I actually did do a photoshoot with my family on top of a local beautiful KY mountain that I need to transfer into a photo book or go back and do another because it started raining that day and we could not finish. The mountains in the background add such beauty and makes me realize just how small we are in the scheme of things. I also like taking a lot of pics by a brook or a local lake, the water in the background adds a nice touch. Thanks for the article, reminds me I need to get back to the mountain and lakes and appreciate what is around me.

I agree about finding the beauty in nature that surrounds us each day. You don’t have to travel to delight in what’s right in your own backyard. Every living thing is a miracle.
