What is it about flowers that fascinates us? The colors? The petals? The shapes? Or their association with romance and beauty - vase of roses, Valentine’s day bouquet, European still-life? Whatever the reasons, flowers are among our favorite photographic subjects, and here on Gallery they have been celebrated in many beautiful ways.
‘
A Book Of Flowers‘ by
JeannieM26 displays floral photos within digitally scrapbooked pages (click
here for more information on digital scrapbooking) along with various quotes by flower lovers. What I appreciate about this book is the care Jeannie took in creating the perfect backgrounds and finding the perfect words. “Flowers…are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world”. This quote pulls me into the accompanying photograph because the sentiment speaks to me in such a personal way. When I look at a thing of beauty like a flower, I breath easier and set aside the logisitics and worries of my “real” life. Thank you Jeannie and Ralph Waldo Emerson for taking me to my happy place
‘ Flowers, Art, and Whimsy‘ is another gorgeous study, this time from a modern point of view. Gone are the gentle floral backgrounds and romantic quotes. This time it’s sleek and black and magnified. I love the images where author MalibuSeaside distorts the flowers through round glass globes. Very cool.
Finally, we take our floral fascination to the extreme by focusing on a single type of flower, the orchid. CarolynL172 takes us on a tour of the ‘ 2008 Orchid Show‘ in NYC, which is non-stop orchid fun. This orchid-obsessed photographer lovingly captures every leaf, every blossom, every color imaginable. We also get to see amazing orchid displays, such as these beyond-beautiful arches made entirely of orchids.

My grandmother, an incredible gardener, sent us some of her roses and lilies to transplant at our new home when she moved into an apartment last fall. I took pictures of her gorgeous flowers throughout the summer. I think a photo book of those pictures would be a nice gift that won’t take up a lot of space in her apartment and allows her to see her flowers any time she wants.

I love getting flowers as a gift. Making a book of a bunch of flowers that were delivered for a special occation will keep them alive forever. Ah-ha…a new idea for a book….now I just have to wait until someone sends me flowers!

The Grandmother must have wanted her garden to live in and indeed if you take pictures of it for her it will. Even better if you can take HER picture with the flowers in their new home!

There are so many photo books posted in the Gallery that only feature the beauty of flowers. I agree with Ann Abbott- receiving a book with floral pictures is like receiving an everlasting flower bouquet … and even more meaningful if accompanied by special quotations, anecdotes, poems or sayings. Flowers are magnificent in the intricacy and perfection of their creation. They are nature’s jewellery! We all marvel at the awesomeness of their detail … from the simple daisy to the romantic rose to the magnbificent strelizia. Keep the photo books on flowers coming … they are so inspiring!

I love all of the flower photo books mentioned above and many others I have seen on the Gallery. They truly are a work of art. I think my daughter would enjoy these due to she takes a lot of flower photos, we even enlarged some of those on Shutterfly and she has them displayed in her apartment. Thanks for a great article. Now I am motivated to put our flower photos in a book.

Thank you for the kind words about my book. I really enjoyed putting it together for my Mom.
Cindy, I love your idea of putting a book together about your grandmother’s garden. What a lovely gift for her. And it would be a beautiful gift for future generations to help remember her and a special aspect of her life.
