Back to School

susielkatie.jpgI can already visualize the picture.  My son is wearing his black cowboy boots that I wouldn’t let him wear all summer because it was too hot, holding his new Buzz Lightyear lunch bag in one hand and his sister’s hand in the other. And my daughter, my baby girl, in her red Mary Janes, holding her new Minnie Mouse lunch bag.

My son is starting preK and my daughter is heading off to preschool. So I will pack their lunches and dress them in their “first day of school” finery and hope that I can get THE shot—the one that captures the emotion of this important transition. Come to think of it, they should take a picture of me. I’m the emotional one.

MarshaC76 created a lovely book, All About Katie, for her graduating daughter and the title page has just the picture I’m talking about. Two sisters, one big, one small, standing in the front yard, arm-in-arm ready for the world.

I enjoyed the book All About Katie. It really was lovely. My sisters kids started school August 28th and like you, she was the emptional one. Her daughter started Kindergarten and her son started 2nd grade. They were all excited and couldn’t wait to go back. Mommy was a bit emotional!! I forgot to ask if she got any first day of school photos. I’m usually the one taking the pictures so we’ll see how that goes. Good luck taking your little ones to school.
    Thanks for the article.

From start to finish…schooling for children is a hugh endeavor. When I was in school, I just went from year to year doing what I was expected to do. But now, see my children go through each year, it is a big deal. They grow and accomplish so much without evening knowing it. So to have a book to celebrate every step of the way from preschool to college grad is spectacular because what they did was spectacular. This book shows them how they became an adult and what they did to get there… now they can take the step out in the real world and always have a book like this to look back on and feel comfort and pride.

Wow, this article touched me. I guess because I have already sent one daughter to college and getting ready to send a son soon. We also took school pics in the same place every year like MarshaC76 stated and I have thought about making a book showcasing all the pics over the years we have taken in that corner on the front porch. Thanks for the article. Made me emotional.
