There have been several recent photo books in gallery that I’d summarize as ‘a life in pictures’. This doesn’t necessarily mean pictures of the person themselves in front of the camera, but pictures a person has taken from behind the back and how a collection represents who they are.
charlotteB89 shared “ Charlottes Photographs” which she describes as a collection of favorite photos that “all have meaning and capture a moment in time that I will always remember.” There may be just one or two photos of Charlotte herself and the others represent places, people and experiences.
howardK12 shared “ THIS IS ME” that has further description but appears to be a similar collection of images that define him and his life, relationships and interests.
Finally, Roadrage shared “ Toms Treasures” a book she created from photographs her father took. This project served as a way to remember her father and his passion for photography.
I’ve been scanning old photographs that my parents took using ScanCafe and am tempted to try a similar project of photos my mom and dad took of places they lived and visited. What would your Life in Pictures photo book include? Share it in Shutterfly Gallery.

My life in pictures would include the photographs my father took of me. Being an only child and my father’s sense of history, he took pride in photographing my growth. The intense documentation of my life as a child stop at the age of 9, due to my father’s passing. I have great respect for those photos. They give me an insight of what my father felt was important at the time.

Great article. I had to view each of these books before I commented. I love the idea of making books about My Favorite Things. It would probably be a book of my nieces & nephews, or flowers or some type of nature photos. I also like Ann’s idea - what an inspiring idea. I still really want to dig into old family photos of my parents//grandparents, but there doesn’t seem to be many. What i have are ones I have used in my other books. Then again, there are TONS of photos of my siblings and i growing up. So many ideas.
Thanks for this article.

Rachel,
I did a similar book for my 95 year old grandfather which I posted in the Gallery some time back (and which luckily I was able to present to him). He looks at the book almost every day (still)… some days he may stare at a picture of his high school hockey team and try to remember names of classmates and other days he’ll try to remember all the names of his 22 grandchildren and their children!! It truly is one of my favorite photobooks I made because it celebrates the life of a wonderful, wonderful person.

I think the book I would make is a book of my favorite photos. I actually have been gathering them for sometime now. A lot of them if of different children, they can make some of the cutest faces. I have a lot of favorites and they are all of so many different things, kids, family, baseball games, etc. Thanks for the article, all the books you referenced were great and a pleasure to view.

What great examples. I had never really considered doing a book like this, but would highly consider in the future. I love the idea of putting together a collection of favorite photos. The idea of having all those shots in one book totally excites me. Thank you for sharing your great article and such great examples.
